Beijing Olympics opening ceremony

2008-08-08 8.08 pm

At 8.08pm, on the 8th of August, 2008 -- eight being a lucky number in china -- the world looked toward Beijing and the 91,000 people inside the National Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest. The Olympics Games started with spectacular shows and overall the performance was pretty awesome.

Renowned film director Zhang Yimou and choreographer Zhang Jigang are the co-directors for the show at the Beijing National Stadium.

“You and Me”, the Beijing Olympics official theme song which was revealed at the opening ceremony on Friday night, sang by Chinese singer Liu Huan and British singer Sarah Brightman.

"You and me/ From one world/ Heart to heart/ We are one family/ For dreams we travel/ Thousands of miles/ We meet in Beijing/ Come together/ The joy we share/ You and me/ From one world/ Forever we are one family" This song lyrics truly reflects the main purpose of the Olympics games--where people from different countries, no matter what color, race, religion, can all come together and compete and we are indeed one big family!!
